Meet Lorrie Chow, Registered Dietitian

Hi, I’m Lorrie Chow, a registered dietitian, soccer mom, and avid runner.

Whether you’re struggling with getting your 18-month-old to eat new foods or figuring out how to fuel your teenager for their next game, I’m here to help you filter and interpret the piles of nutrition advice out there.

That’s my jam. I love researching all the current studies and helping people enjoy food like I do.

  • You’re worried that your child is eating too much… or too little, but you don’t know what to do without causing harm.

  • You’re training for your first… or tenth marathon, but you’re unsure if carb-loading is still a thing?

  • You’re reading websites and blogs, listening to podcasts, inundated with social media posts… and being given advice by well meaning parents and friends. And it’s all different, all confusing! You just need to know where to start.

  • You want the best for yourself. And, you want the best for your kids. You know that the way that your parents forced you to eat your peas isn’t the answer. But what is? If I don’t make them eat their veggies, will they be okay?

I know what it’s like to worry about your child’s nutrition. When my daughter was a baby she stopped gaining weight and was tested for failure to thrive.

This was very stressful and being a dietitian, I felt extra-judged by my friends and family. Fortunately, I knew a dietitian who gave me the independent advice I needed to set me on the right path. With small, simple changes I found so much relief. Fast forward to now and I have an active teenager that plays high-level soccer. Let me help you with your challenges and find the right path too.

How Did I Get Into Sports Nutrition?

Food and nutrition were a part of growing up. I’m a farm girl from Columbia Valley where my parents grew almost all of our food. Sport was also part of my childhood.

When there wasn’t gardening or haying to be done, my parents were running ultramarathons. Leading up to big races, there was always a 2L bottle of cola on the kitchen counter that we’d give a shake to ‘defizz’ for race day; a precursor to the fifty sports drinks on the shelves today. Do you wonder which one you should get? Let me tell you; I’ve done the research.

After my first degree in biology, travelling the world, and working a bit, I went back to UBC to follow my passion for nutrition. I’m a member of the College of Health and Care Professions of BC and a member of Dietitians of Canada. I started working at BC Children’s Hospital soon after graduating and have been there for over 15 years. I love helping families find the right balance with nutrition in their lives.

And I love helping athletes achieve their goals with current evidence (hint: it’s not defizzed cola).

I can help you with:

  • General pediatric nutrition

  • Picky eating

  • Youth sports nutrition

  • Adult sports nutrition

  • Youth eating disorders and disordered eating
